T he year is 2022, and wikipedia.com is bustling with information on every possible subject from around the world. Entertainment, politics, sports, biographies and autobiographies and lots more. However, a thorough look clearly shows an absence of qualitative and accurate content about Nigeria and Nigerians.

Nigeria is indeed great in every regard. It is one of the most culturally diverse countries on the continent of Africa, with as many as 371 tribal groups. Nigeria has the sixth largest deposit of crude oil in the world and abundant reserves of a great variety of mineral resources. Nigeria is blessed with vast quantities of arable land for agricultural purposes as well as a huge, vibrant population, the largest, of any black nation in the world.

In spite of all these indicators of prosperity, Nigeria has not lived up to its potential as the proverbial  “Giant of Africa.”  This is mostly due to poor leadership and unbridled corruption, over the years.

However, regardless of the widespread corruption that pervades the country the insecurity and prevailing poverty, Nigeria remains home to some of the greatest personalities that have ever walked the face of the earth. From literary giants to inventors and scientists, sports personalities and entertainers who, even though they enjoy global acclaim, little or nothing is known about them.

Furthermore, too little is known about the very rich culture of the different ethnic nationalities that make up Nigeria. This situation, in our opinion, necessitated the introduction of our CSR initiative, “The Nigeria Wiki Project,” through which we hope to change inaccurate and false narratives about Nigeria and Nigerians in particular and Africa, by extension.
